The Mariposa Fund was founded in 2016 by a group of abortion care providers in Albuquerque, NM. We recognized the extraordinary barriers that exist for undocumented people trying to obtain reproductive health services—including abortion—and started a clinic-based fund to ensure everyone could access care. Since then, we’ve expanded our work to provide support to anyone impacted by the immigration system and anti-trans discrimination. The Mariposa Fund helps cover the gap left by insurance and the state to fund abortion, contraception, and gender-affirming care. We are an all-volunteer based fund so over 99% of our budget goes directly to practical support and healthcare costs.
The Mariposa Fund’s mission is to eliminate barriers to healthcare caused by criminalization, health insurance gaps, economic insecurity, linguistic barriers, and oppression rooted in white supremacy, misogyny, transphobia, and xenophobia. We recognize that these barriers are systemic and we work to provide direct financial support to help people access the essential healthcare care they want and need. Our work is guided by values of racial justice, reproductive justice, bodily autonomy, and gender equity. Based on these values, we envision our work as a form of wealth redistribution and mutual aid.
Your support helps ensure that undocumented community members in New Mexico can access the reproductive care they need.
Every contribution helps reduce financial barriers and supports compassionate care for those who need it most.
While we prepare to launch our new website, we invite you to support our Community Fund-A-Thon for Abortion Access. Together with partner organizations, we are raising funds to support abortion care, practical support, and community-rooted reproductive health.
